What We Are

The Applied Commercial Law Research Hub (ACLRH) promotes research and knowledge exchange on matters relating to the development and reform of commercial law. The Hub is dedicated to addressing the unique challenges emerging economies face in crafting commercial laws that align with both local realities and the demands of an interconnected global system. By promoting contextual, principled, and responsive research, as well as participatory methodologies, ACLRH plays a pivotal role in advancing effective commercial law frameworks.
ACLRH pursues its aims through:
• Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange: ACLRH creates an environment that encourages meaningful dialogue among researchers, as well as between researchers and stakeholders through conferences and round-table events, facilitating the shaping of reform policies and advancing the field of commercial law.
• Facilitation and Mentoring: ACLRH offers workshops focused on research methodologies and methods, where established researchers provide capacity-building and mentorship opportunities for early career researchers. The interactions among researchers, as well as between researchers and stakeholders, create an environment conducive to developing high-quality research.
• Resources: the ACLRH website offers valuable resources for those interested in informed and contextual research on commercial law and its reform.

ACLRH was established in September 2019 with funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). It has also received support from the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). Originally known as the Commercial Law Research Network Nigeria (CLRNN), the Hub’s work extended beyond Nigeria, influencing commercial law systems in various countries. To better reflect its focus on contextual research and participatory methodologies, it was renamed the Applied Commercial Law Research Hub (ACLRH) in 2024.

Membership of ACLRH is open to researchers, lawmakers, draftsmen, policymakers, regulators, enforcers and users of commercial law.
