CLRNN has several events outlined for the first quarter of 2022, both on the main and Spotlight platforms. Details of these events, as well as registration links are set out below. We look forward to hosting our speakers and participants for collaborative discussions.
February 2022
We host our first CLRNN SPOTLIGHT on Corporate Governance and Insolvency Law in Africa for the year. The CLRNN Spotlight series was launched in July 2022 following calls from our colleagues across Africa for engagement on topics that are mutually beneficial. We have since held 4 seminars available through the Spotlight section of the Resources tab on our website. The following link will provide access to the presentations: https://aclrh.net/category/clrnnspotlight/.
Given the interest of practitioners in our sessions, we have also introduced sessions with insights from practitioners and regulators across Africa. We hope that these sessions will contribute to capacity-building, while providing networking opportunities amongst our community.
To launch our practitioners’ insight, we are hosting Mr Okorie Kalu, legal practitioner and partner at the law firm of PUNUKA Attorneys & Solicitors. Following the insolvency reforms introduced via the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (CAMA 2020), Okorie will provide a practitioner’s insight into one of the first restructuring cases in Nigeria using the new Company Voluntary Arrangements procedure. Please, see registration details below:
March 2022:
Book Launch
We host the book launch for the trailblazing new book by Dr Folashade Adeyemo: Banking Regulation in Africa – The Case of Nigeria and Other Developing Economies.
There is a dearth of information on banking regulation in Africa. Much more information has been written from the perspective of Western countries and on Asian tigers. This ground-breaking text fills this vacuum in this field. While Dr Folashade Adeyemo focuses primarily on the development of banking regulation in Nigeria, she also captures the regulatory frameworks of other emerging economies such as Kenya and South Africa. In the case of Nigeria, she argues that the regulator needs to adopt a proactive rather than reactive approach towards ensuring effective regulation of banks in the banking sector.
Panel: Dr Olufemi Amao, Reader, Sussex University; Professor Andy Campbell, Emeritus Professor of Banking and Financial Law, University of Leeds; Ms Ibukunoluwa Iyiola-Omisore, Doctoral Researcher, University of Leeds.
Date: Wednesday 23 March 2022
Time: 14:00hrs (London)
